Director of Development Job Description 

Overview 

Organize activities to raise funds or otherwise solicit and gather monetary donations, pursue, and oversee grants, and other gifts for HRM and fiscal management and accountability of Development activities. 

Responsibilities 

Engage in fundraising, planning, directing, marketing, and coordinating activities to solicit and maintain funds for general funds and special projects. 

Pursue grants including grant writing, maintenance and maintaining relationships with foundations and foundation leaders. 

Raise awareness of HRM’s work, goals, and financial needs. 

Job Duties 

Developing each year’s Development Plan with an accompanying calendar including all direct mail pieces, special events and social media. 

HRM website, creating, designing, writing, development, and maintenance of site. Engaging with donors regularly to build personal relationships promoting retention. Marketing all aspects of the ministry for raising awareness and resources for HRM programs. 

Financial management of all aspects of development projects, expenses, financial budget accountability and awareness, and developing annual development budgets. 

Community engagement working with, serving, and reaching out to churches, community groups, local government, and other stakeholders. 

Research market conditions in local, regional, and national areas, gathering information to determine potential promotion of all HRM’s products and services. 

These duties and responsibilities are not exclusive. 

Qualifications 

  • Refined professionalism to present HRM to the public in all aspects of communication with others.
  • Excellent planning, administrative and organizational skills, time management efficiency and careful attention to detail.
  • Leadership and motivational skills.
  • Work independently yet works effectively with team members representing a wide range of personalities.
  • Proven ability in biblically based financial management and financing strategy, execution, and accountability.
  • Grant Writing skills and/or knowledge
  • Agreement with HRM statement of faith and vision and values

Education and Experience 

  • A relevant college degree and/or equivalent years of experience in ministry, marketing and administrative work is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years management experience required, including development, and fundraising, and managing projects and events.
  • Proficiency with computer software including Google Suites, website programs, social media posts, financial tracking, and creative software such as Canva.
  • Mature Christian with a strong faith and ability to lead as a Disciple of Christ. Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to serve the Lord in rescue ministry.
